Fundraising… giving a vote of confidence…

We are very fortunate to not have the common missionary experience when it comes to fundraising… while most spent months or years visiting churches, setting up meetings with friends and family and producing multiple publications expressing their financial needs, asking for support and at times questioning their calling due to lack of funds… we have experienced something much different up until this point…

In 2005 we went to 3 churches asking for support and send out 150 letters… that got us to within $40,000 of our goal for first year salary and start-up costs… car, plane tickets, work permits, shipping household goods, etc… in October 2005 I walked up on stage at the first service of a five service weekend and asked for $40,000… while walking down the aisle towards the lobby a professional athlete chased me down… it wasn’t too hard for him… and he wrote a check on the spot for $40,000… the pastor spent the next four services sharing the story… and reminding people with tongue in cheek to give to someone else…

In January 2007 as we were switching agencies our funds were frozen for three months and many supports did not make the switch with us… again an individual wrote a check for $50,000… this time before a request even went out…

It’s amazing how through trials you forget the miracles, provision and confirmations God sends your way… for all the transitions, disease, heartache and hurt we’ve had in the first 2+ years we have never been lacking in terms of support and supporters who care… I wish every missionary could experience that “vote of confidence” that people send your way when they commit to supporting your calling…

Currently our support situation has changed… for the first time in 2+ years we are “under funded” … and it is time to raise support… this isn’t a surprise to us… we are having our support sent to a third location in less than three years… it is common to lose support and supporters with all this change… we currently need to raise an additional $3,000 per month…

I’m glad this has happened at this time… it’s a good chance to share with supporters the great things that are happening with our new agency and the great things that continue to go on in Uganda… its also a chance for us again to see God’s provision… which is a great source of encouragement in the middle of any storm…

I’ll keep you updated as to how God provides over the next 6 weeks… and probably share a few thoughts on fundraising as well… for now if you are interested in sending a vote of confidence our way… just click on the “NMSI Donations” link below the picture of Your Tribal Host…

And for all the other missionaries that you send “votes of confidence” to… THANKS… your ongoing support encourages them... us... me... each day…
