Jeff’s Triennial Log… Blog date 10/14/08

Most people are heading home today… buses started rolling out at 1:30 AM and by mid-afternoon most people will be gone… many are choosing to see a few sights on the way home… we decided to stick around 2 extra days since Christine has had to study during all the down time in the conference and hasn’t experienced any R&R in the 2 weeks of the conference…

She did great on her exam yesterday… 3.5 hours were given for 10 essay questions focusing mostly on animal virus / bacteria / and who has the coolest hoof prints…

I think the best part of the conference was being with all the other missionaries… that sounds so cheesy… but it is true… we really like the people at NMSI…

We first heard about NMSI while going through training at MTI in Colorado Springs in August ’05… it was 5 weeks for language and cultural training with missionaries from several different organizations… there were four missionaries from NMSI on their way to India to work with upper cast Hindus…

They were just about the only people we stayed in contact with after the training… and their great experience with NMSI was a huge factor in our decision to sign on… it turns out they aren’t the only people we enjoy hanging out with…

Noah and Kadin now have friends in China, Brazil, Australia and India to name a few…

Christine and I now have a huge network of agricultural and pastoral trainers around the world that we can connect with, seek advice from and mutually encourage as we work around the world on similar projects… and hopefully someday get the opportunity to work with… we are still recruiting for Team Uganda…

2 weeks wasn’t nearly enough time to connect with everyone… but it was the best for the time we had… next Triennial should be even harder to find time for everyone… at NMSI’s current growth rate we should have an additional 200 bodies next time around… the mission is growing and the couples seem to be particularly fertile…

So to all the NMSI people who are taking a break from saving the world and reading this blog instead… see you in 2011!
