Jeff’s Triennial Log… Blog date 10/15/08

It turns out another couple stuck around Thessaloniki for 2 extra days… the President of NMSI and his wife also tacked on 2 additional days…

Phil offered to take Christine and I for a ride along the coast while Gwen spent the day with the boys… we jumped at the opportunity and were soon cruising along the coast with Phil…

Phil is kind of like Fun Bobby… just keep your passport in your pocket and let him decide the itinerary for the day… you won’t be disappointed…

He pulled over about 3 miles from the hotel at a small white church… he took the opportunity to give us a tour of the Greek Orthodox churches… Phil spent 8 years traveling back and forth to Russia to work with the Orthodox church… when I say tour I mean he explained every picture, symbol and relic… in another life he should be a tour guide… it was great…

We weren’t allowed to take pictures in the church… Jesus wouldn’t approve… but just imagine Michelangelo… not the Ninga Turtle… painting the major themes and characters of the Bible all over the ceiling and walls… it was amazing… I don’t think you could ever get bored in those churches… there was so much to look at… and all that Greek I studied in college and seminary came in handy for reading all the signs…

Later we found some fabulous Cappuccinos followed by Gyros while overlooking the sea… by the time we got back Gwen and the boys had conquered the beach, playground and lunch buffet…

Phil and Gwen are one of those couples you want to hang out with any chance you get… they are fun, down to earth and a great encouragement to be around… the boys absolutely adore them and I get a kick out of hearing them talk about Mr Phil and Ms Gwen in all their Bulgaria and Greece stories…
