Jeff’s Triennial Log… Blog date 10/17/08

The three day journey home begins yesterday… the work week is shot so instead of doing the 24 hour+ marathon journey home we broke it up to see if is any more enjoyable and restful… the worst thing that can happen is that I will be tired at work on Monday… but nothing caffeine can’t cure…

Yesterday was packing and a short drive into Thessaloniki because we have an earlier morning flight today… nothing exciting to report…

We arrived in Athens after a 1 hour delay on our 1 hour flight… Thessaloniki is kind of like Burbank Airport… they run on their own time…

We took the subway train to the hotel… which was the highlight of the day for the boys… then walked from our hotel to the Acropolis… seriously when I was three I think driving from Gonzales to Salinas was the extent of our vacations… or all I can remember… and I have the feeling that Kadin will remember about as much as I did…

So Kadin and Noah… when you learn to read and find this blog in 10 years… if the internet still exists… this blog serves as a record that you have been to some amazing places…

We thought it would be a great idea to walk everywhere in Athens... little did we know that ancient ruins of pillars, rocks and dirt could be so hot and tiring... walking up to the top of the Acropolis was not that important to either of you at the time... but for the record... you've done it...

This is one of our 10 shade breaks on the walk up the Acropolis... you're sitting at the base of Temple of Athena Nike... the hot blonde in the picture is your mom... when your 15 it will probably make you sick to hear me talk like that... but when you were 3 and 5 I was the funniest guy in the world...

This is us standing in front of the Parthenon... your mom and I looked everywhere to find it until we realized that the Parthenon was the building on top of the Acropolis... may your parents ignorance serve as a strong reminder to pay attention during Greek Mythology when your in 6th grade... you never know when you will be in Athens...

Kadin this is the extent of your interest in Athens... when you weren't complaining about having to walk you were being carried and sleeping through most of it...

You also saw the Theatre of Dionysos, Hadrian's Arch, Temple of Olympian Zeus, Ancient Agora and the Panathinaikon Stadium ... but Kadin's favorite sight was the turtle he found in the apple display at the market and Noah was the master at getting free souvenirs in every shop we visited and navigating the subways...

There you have it... even if you can't remember...
