Jeff’s Triennial Log… blog date 10/8/08...

The Triennial Conference has been perfect… I feel refreshed, recharged and ready to blog… but the ALL-inclusive resort in Greece apparently did not include internet…

So while I have had every intention to give up-to-the-minute reports on the conference from Greece… it appears I will be taking a blogging Sabbatical…

I haven’t had a ten day break from the internet since the days of UTL in Mukono during the great internet famine of ‘06… I think I’ll still remember how to log on and surf by the time we return home…

So whenever you read this… here is the latest from the conference…

Yesterday we traveled from wherever we were in Bulgaria to Thessaloniki, Greece… 300 missionaries traveling 14 hours by bus… you can’t even imagine the fun we had… here are a few highlights…

We stopped once to eat… but you would have thought Jesus was on the bus passing out fish and bread… missionaries are amazing at sneaking food form hotel dinning halls into their purses and backpacks… it was snackers paradise on the bus… and no one appeared to be starving or hungry for that matter at any point in the day…

Crossing the border took 2 hours… so we turned an empty parking lot into a track, soccer field and wrestling mat for 55 children who had been stuck on a bus all day… Craig, soon to be married missionary, got a taste of child raising when we convinced 10 of the 4 & 5 year olds to all wrestle him at once… Noah showed the younger kids how to drop the elbow much to Craig’s demise…

There weren’t any toilets on the bus… so as the Uganda missionary with 2 boys I was nominated to teach the 4-year old missionary kid on his way to China how to poop in a bag… and many others learned how to use an empty water bottle as a urinal along the way…

Blogger would not permit any pictures... nor would my wife or the parents of the participating children...

We arrived just before midnight and discovered that our room was strategically located right above the disco at the hotel… although we were eager to go downstairs and dance we chose instead to let the beat of the bass drive us to sleep…
