Noah is 5...

Not many children get to spend there first 5 birthdays on 3 different continents…

Not many children get to swim in 3 oceans before they are 5…

Not many children could convince 300 of their closest friends to fly to Bulgaria for their 5th birthday… but Noah believes he did…

Noah lives a charmed life…

His birthday this year was like a Jewish feast... lasting 8 days...

Last Friday we gave him his "big man bike"...

Last Sunday his buddy Daniel came over for pizza, cake and ice-cream...

Then Wednesday we left for Bulgaria for the real party to begin... for months we've been telling him his birthday would be in Bulgaria... somewhere along the way he got convinced that the reason we were traveling to Bulgaria was to celebrate his 5th birthday...

What started out as an innocent misunderstanding became a community celebration... our friends at NMSI have gone continually out of their way to make this birthday... in Noah's words... "the best birthday ever"... from the time we arrived friends have been counting down the days to the celebration... on the big day not a person could walk by without giving the 5-year-old a high 5... Ms Gwen and the team working with the kids all week put on an afternoon birthday bash complete with presents and real frosting... then to top it off our Bulgarian waiter brought out a chocolate rum cake while the dinning hall of 300 MNSI missionaries belted out "Happy Birthday" while Noah soaked it all in...

As I tucked my big boy into bed his smile stretched from ear to ear... his eyes barely opened... his hands clutching his new watch and some new cars...

"Dad, this was the best birthday ever... what are we doing next year?"

To be continued...

If only Nanny and Pops could have been there to sing "Happy Birthday" in person! Thank you everyone for making Noah's 5th birthday so special. And thank you Noah for being such a special boy. We love you!

Love, Nanny and Pops

Wow, cool beans for a little guy! (I'm Josh Walker's mom, by the way. how's he doing over there on the Mediteranean?) I remember when our older son Shawn went to Kenya and traveled on his actual b'day, so it lasted 36 hours on 3 continents. Pretty cool.
