The Gift With No Place To Grow…

In 2007 a casual worker at Gaba Bible Institute had an unusual problem… she received a gift but had no place to put it…

On average casual workers receive $2 per day… these workers lived in humble 1-2 room apartments usually measuring less than 100 square feet with no land to call their own…

Doreen was one of these workers and she received a gift… a friend gave her a young matoke tree less than a meter high… and less than a $1 in value… embarrassed that she had no place to put her gift she planted it behind the offices at GBI… hoping that no one would notice…

Nobody noticed at all… until 9 months later as the matoke began to ripen…

The students began checking on the matoke daily and when it ripened the cut down the tree to retrive the matoke and immediately began peeling and preparing it to eat…

The amazing thing is that the tree … like other trees in the banana family… began to produce more and more trees… I’m sure there is a fancy ag term for it but I just refer to it as the “circle of life”… today we now have 25 matoke trees planted at GBI… all from the same “gift” that had no place to grow…

As the trees continue to produce new trees around themselves we should eventually run out of room to plant… so I have begun asking neighbors if we can plant matoke trees in their yards in return for half of the harvest…

Random story, I know… but I think it shows 2 amazing things… 1) God provides all we need and 2) God won’t leave Himself without witness…

Yet he has not left himself without testimony: He has shown kindness by giving you rain from heaven and crops in their seasons; he provides you with plenty of food and fills your hearts with joy.” Acts 14:17

Exo 16:35 And the children of "Israel did eat the manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat the manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan." Ex. 16:35

Mom and I were reminded that God provided for the Israelites in the desert.

"and ye shall know that I am Jehovah your God." Ex. 16:12b.

What a great illustration of God's grace to everyone at GBI and to their neighbors.

My comment isn't as spiritual except that I did give Dad the idea! I just think it's a cool example of God's provision in all circumstances.
