Tragedy strikes the rabbitat...

I always wonder when we will officially become "those strange missionaries"... some friends have mentioned that we have been getting close... but I am now convinced that we have arrived... this family is beyond strange...

It seemed we were in the clear once we discovered that 3 females were killed by the dogs and that the 2 males had lived... but on Sunday night one of the males took a turn for the worse... Christine immediately went into action giving the dying man some antibiotic injections but he refused to eat...

In a last ditch attempt to save him from dehydration she went down to the medical clinic and got some IV bags of saline... she hooked him up to an IV bag and we turned on some Friends in attempt to cheer him up...

He made it through the night and Christine was up again at 6 AM to give him another round of saline... I was hopeful that he would pull through...

At 2 PM I got the call that no rabbit owner can prepare themselves for... Christine let me know that he passed gracefully in his cage next to the other male and their shared 5 wives... he lived a good life and will be remembered for his courage he showed in his last days on earth after the dog attack...

In the midst of our grieving we heard reports that their is another strange missionary in country that has rabbits... we are hopeful that we will be able to find a new husband for the young widows that remain behind who still have many great years of rabbit bearing left in them...

It was a rough week... but we do not grieve as those without hope... tonight the remaining male will consummate his marriage with female #3 and the circle of life will continue to move us all...

I am expecting those magical 30 seconds to be followed by another 30 minutes of questions from the boys...

It's official... we are "that" family!
